A photographic portrait is a unique perspective of an individual in a moment in time. It should not only capture an individual's likeness, but be an artwork in itself. For centuries portraits of individuals were skilfully painted on canvas or delicately carved into stone or marble over the course of several hours, days, even years. The invention of photography in the early 19th century introduced a whole new way to capture a person's likeness in minutes, and with scientific accuracy. Fast forward the clock to today, and we can now capture portraits in a fraction of a second thanks to advancements in photographic technology, even with the smallest and most portable cameras. You are likely familiar with the term 'selfie' as you document moments in your life using the in-built camera on your smartphone. These are quick, self-composed shots, usually taken at arms' length or slightly longer through a lens that's about the size of a small coin, if not smaller if you're using the front-facing camera. They are autobiographical, of low-to-medium quality, and very popular because we can now all enjoy photography using an easy-to-hold device we take everywhere with us. Smartphones have popularised photography and have made it accessible for everyone - which is a wonderful thing! - yet it has made it somewhat easy to forget how a portrait, created by an artist, with a keen eye and sophisticated tools, can offer a rewarding, special, and unique perspective of ourselves.
I can capture your likeness in a moment in time, in a setting of your choice, be it informal or formal. Perhaps you want a compelling portrait of yourself for your home, or want one for social media? Whatever the reason, I'm more than happy to work with you and provide you with some wonderful artworks of yourself or loved ones that you can always cherish, share, print, and look back on.
